The Horsehead Nebula is a dark nebula cloud obscuring the red emission nebula IC434 in the unmistakable shape of a horse's head (always reminds me more of a seahorse actually). Very difficult to observe visually and is about 800 light years distant just south of the left most star in Orion's belt (Alnitak). It was a real treat seeing this nebula visually for the first time through a hydrogen-beta filter on a 20-inch dobsonian! The bright bluish reflection nebula below the horsehead is NGC2023. The yellow bright maple-leaf shaped nebula to the left is NGC2024 - another striking emission nebula sometime referred to as the Flame Nebula. Click on the image for a close up.

This is a section of long triangular shaped emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus, not far from the more familiar and larger North American Nebula and Pelican Nebulas.
Optics: TEC 140 @ f5.2 Camera: Canon Rebel XT (350D) modified; Type 1a filter ISO 800 Exposure: 20 x 10 min Mount/Guiding: G11; ST4 through TV85 Processing: Dark Subtract & stack in DeepSkyStacker; Levels & Curves in PS7 Location: RTMC in Big Bear, CA Date: 5/23/09 Comments: Clear skies; good seeing. First try combining flats which seemed to even out image at full frame nicely. Slight differential slippage due to loose flip mirror on guide scope but not too noticeable at this scale.
This is a section of a larger emission nebula (IC1396) and open star cluster of the same designation in the constellation Cepheus. The unusual cloud formation extending across the right side of this region is a reflection nebula often called the Elephant Trunk and is designated as vdB-142. Click HERE for a close up view.

Bit of differential flexure that night guiding.

Clouded over by 1:30 and had to cut image short. Would like to repeat with longer exposure.
This crop of the Heart Nebula (IC1805) in the constellation Cassiopeia is an interesting area with a bright and pretty open star cluster called Melotte 15 embedded in its center. The expansive emission nebula comprising IC1805 extends loosely in a heart shape and has complex structures in the brighter areas. IC1805 lies in an area filled with nebula complexes and star clusters. Click HERE for a close up of center region.

The Witchhead Nebula is a faint blue reflection nebula in the constellation Eridanus. The light is mostly reflected from the blue light of the bright blue star Rigel which is off to the right of this image in the constellation Orion.

IC2177 is the broad sweeping emission nebula across the lower half of the image and the brighter bluish nebula above (vdB93) is a mixture of emission and reflection nebula with a distinctive dust lane only visible through larger scopes with narrow band filters. This grouping is found in the constellation Monoceros.

IC4685 is a large and complex grouping of red emission nebula, blue reflection, dark nebula (represented by the dark lanes), and a prominent open star cluster that is almost lost amidst the more colorful objects. IC1275 is the smaller bright section on the left and NGC6559 is the smaller bright section on the right. This area is found just east of the Lagoon Nebula in the constellation Sagittarius.

This image is known as the Pelican Nebula or the complex emission nebula region IC5067-70. It is one of the more interesting sections of the large faint nebulas in the constellation Cygnus. This nebula is also noted for its interesting position next to the larger North American Nebula. Click HERE for a close up on some of the complex structure in the "head." in the constellation Sagittarius.
