IC342 is a beautiful face-on spiral galaxy in Camelopardalis just east of Cassiopeia. At 10 million light years away it is in our local group of galaxies though its view is obscured by many of our own Milky Way's stars and dust.

The Markarian Chain is a string of distinct galaxies of various types starting with M84, a giant eliptical galaxy in the lower right of the image, on up to M88 (not shown) in Coma Bernices. M86 is the brightest eliptical galaxy near M84 both of which are members of the Virgo Supercluster of galaxies about 65 million light years away. This view captures many of the galaxies in the chain. You should be easily able to count about 12 galaxies but with the help of a good star map it is actually easy to identify almost 20 additional galaxies (though it helps to brighten ones monitor).

Comments: Average seeing. Thin high clouds passing through with lots of moisture in the air. Had to throw out several images that had bright backgrounds.
